BBL Forever Bare Pre and Post Care
what to expect
_______
before your treatment:
- Please shave the area to be treated 24 hours before treatment as we are not able to in the clinic.
- Prior to treatment please avoid sun exposure for up to 2-4 weeks depending on your Fitzpatrick skin type.
- Please ensure fake tan has not been applied for 4 weeks.
- Avoid the use of topical creams, deodorants and perfumes of the area treated on the day of treatment. (We just want the skin as clean and clear as possible!)
- Avoid waxing and plucking hairs four weeks prior to treatment and shaving is the only form of hair removal used in between your treatments.
afterwards:
The skin will often feel warm, it may appear slightly red and you can often see small red bumps developing on the area treated. These are all totally normal (and is generally a key indication the treatment was effective). These responses are just due to the heat from the light targeting and destroying your hair follicles.
possible temporary responses:
It is possible that you may experience some of the following temporary responses as a result of this treatment, which are not a reaction but a response to stimulation of the skin:
- Redness and inflammation - this should settle after 2-3 days.
- Histamine responses (some of us have naturally high levels of histamine and this is just essentially how our body naturally responds to heat).
- Itchiness - once again related to those histamine levels in the skin and will settle 24-48 hours after treatment.
- Your skin may seem somewhat darkened after laser hair removal procedures. This is a temporary side effect that generally subsides within a week or two.
- Acne may occur on the treated region after your BBL hair removal treatments. When pores get blocked, this adverse effect occurs. Because the laser's heat opens up your pores, your skin will be more susceptible to these small infections.
These temporary responses may be relieved by applying BetaGel and/ or Solar Damage Gel as instructed by your HUD Skin Therapist. If you’re experiencing hives, we recommend an over the counter anti histamine cream. Please call us for further instructions.
what to avoid after
_______
The first 48-72 hours:
- Apply DMK Solar Damage for the first 3 days post treatment to help decrease any inflammation and keep a bacteria free environment.
- Inform your skin clinician of any problems and follow any instructions you are given. As with any treatment, there is always a very small possibility that you could have a negative response that the clinician could not predict. If you’re worried or are experiencing itchy, red, rashy skin please contact us.
- Gently cleanse the area treated with a mild cleanser such as DMK hydrolouffa. You should aim to pat your skin dry and not rub during the first 48 hours post treatment.
- Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 48 hours. Avoid anything that involves chlorine (e.g. swimming) for 48 hours and try to wear loose fitted clothing.
- Don’t apply makeup to the treated area or perfumed products, bleaching creams and fake tan
- After sessions and for the next 48 hours, avoid applying makeup, deodorant, or other cosmetics. The skin will be able to ‘breathe' while it recovers. To allow the pores to filter away dirt, and keep those pores free and clean and bacteria free.
- Avoid activities that cause excessive perspiration for 72 hours after treatment such as: exercise, spas, saunas etc.
For the next 2 weeks:
- Stay out of direct sunlight for up to 2 weeks after treatment as the skin will be sensitive and needs time to heal. Ensure you are wearing a 50+ SPF. We recommend DMK 50+.
- Begin the exfoliation procedure 5-10 days following your laser hair removal treatment. Exfoliation aids the ‘shedding process,' allowing the treated hair to be broken down and expelled from beneath the skin helping to prevent ingrown hairs. Micro Peel is recommended for a gentle exfoliation.
